A report from Deadline is saying that Lanthimos will again team up with Searchlight Pictures for the fifth time for a film titled “AND.” Curiously, the film stars much of the same main cast as “Poor Things. Principal photography on “AND” begins in New Orleans this October, but plot details have been kept under wraps. The cast will include Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, and Jesse Plemons. Lanthimos, much like Wes Anderson, might be releasing two movies next year....

The film tells the story of Undine, who works as a historian lecturing on Berlin’s urban development, having her life upended when the man she loves leaves her and, suddenly, an “ancient myth catches up with her....

“Apollo 10 1/2” is not really a space movie as much as it is about childhood in mid-to-late ‘60s Texas. So it comes as no surprise that Linklater directed this highly personal film about growing up. Playing like a slice of life, albeit in dreamy rotoscope animation, Linklater’s film feels like a time machine back to when things were much simpler in America. Very light on its feet, and oddly recalling “The Wonder Years” in its heavy usage of narration, this is a vivid portrait of a very specific time and place in American history....

Yes, it’s been a barrage of terminal illness movies ever since, and you’d be hard-pressed not to have a year where a film about the topic isn’t released. With all that being said, first-time director Ruthy Pribar’s “Asia”, winner of the top prize at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, is a sobering affair — avoiding the usual sentimental cliches a debilitating illness drama might have, in favour of stellar direction and acting....

The 91-year-old sex therapist has now spent 40 years concocting sex education to the American public, but “Ask Dr. Ruth” covers the life of a girl born to Orthodox Jewish parents, a former holocaust survivor, Israeli army sniper, and thrice-married woman in a joyfully exuberant celebration of a strong-willed but triumphant woman. It’s the kind of film that will be very hard for the Academy to resist come next year’s doc category....

The film is set in “Barbieland,” a beautiful, colorful society with Kens and Barbies. Ryan Gosling’s Ken, said to be a “complete doofus”, is obsessed with Barbie, but loves the real world for all the reasons Barbie hates it (beauty standards, sexism, etc). Gerwig’s film eventually becomes a “big fish out of water comedy” as Ken and Barbie leave “Barbieland” for the real world and the Mattel CEO (Will Ferrell) goes after the duo to bring them back to Barbieland....

Even before the Toronto International Film Festival had begun, we knew that the ultra-mainstream TIFF crowd would eat up the crowdpleasing quirks of Kenneth Branagh’s “Belfast” and, gulp, possibly reward it with the coveted People’s Choice Award. Well, that’s exactly what happened this evening as Branagh’s film took home the top prize. The prize itself is often considered a precursor for the Academy Awards, as the winner for the past nine years has gone on to get nominated for the Best Picture Oscar....

The story of The Notorious B.I.G. has been told multiple times, but this estate-approved documentary on the legendary rapper (also known as Christopher Wallace) was executive-produced by Wallace’s mother Voletta and Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, both are extensively interviewed in the film. ‘I Got a Story to Tell’ is directed and edited with real flair by Emmett Malloy. Much of the film is derived from archival footage shot by Biggie’s childhood friend Damian “D Roc” Butler....

The fact of the matter is that this origin story, which has Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff, AKA Black Widow, confronting the darker parts of her past, has no real purpose to it. It plays like a money grab because, well, it is. Sure, director Cate Shortland directs the action with the full intent of having the viewer on the edge of their seat, but the stakes in this film are inconsequential....

Murphy will be back in the role of Akeem, the privileged African prince who settles into Queens to look for an American wife. Brewer just directed Murphy in “Dolemite Is My Name,” a biopic on the actor who played the famous cinematic blaxploitation character in the 1970s. That collaboration seems to have most likely gotten Murphy to vouch for Brewer to get on board with the “Coming to America” sequel....

When compared to other rock biopics, “Rocketman” ($95 million), “Bohemian Rhapsody” ($214 million) and “Straight Outta Compton” ($160 million), one can safely assume that “Elvis” is doing well. The film has made around $160 million worldwide, and well on its way to at least doubling its $85 million budget. It’s also one of the few major studio films this summer to have earned mostly positive reviews (along with “Top Gun: Maverick,” and “The Black Phone”)....

EARLIER: A trailer has been released for Antoine Fuqua’s “Emancipation.” I am more and more leaning towards the belief that “Emancipation” probably won’t be a good movie. Not because of Will Smith, whom I’ve always thought to be a talented actor, but more due to the fact that Fuqua is directing the slavery epic. Can we honestly have high hopes for a movie whose director’s best movie was “Training Day”?...

Berlinger already has “The Ted Bundy Tapes” on Netflix and, given that the streaming giant also bought Extremely vile’ at Sundance for $13 million, a double-feature is damn-near impossible to resist between these two films. In my Sundance rave review of Berlinger’s “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” I wrote: “This is a character study about a charming and intelligent guy who exhibited kindness to women and children alike, but also happened to be a murderer....

Obviously, the peculiar directorial career of Scott is one that you cannot help but respect. The 83-year-old filmmaker is not just a workaholic, churning out almost one film per year, but in his nearly five-decade career he’s managed to release as many great films as he has terrible ones. All of this to say, a “House of Gucci” test screening might be happening tomorrow night in the West Coast. I’ll be on the lookout for reactions (if it is indeed happening)....

Honestly, at this point, I already was against this sequel being made, so the news that Lady Gaga might be starring in the film and that it’s a … musical? Well, that definitely raises my interest. The best thing Phillips can do is make a completely different movie than the first one. That way it’ll separate both films as entirely different entities. I don’t think having Gaga as a singing Harley Quinn is such a terrible idea, might as well go for full-on WEIRD with this one....

I’m glad this rumor has been sorted out tonight as Variety is reporting that DiCaprio will indeed have the lead role in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming epic, with Plemons and Robert DeNiro going Supporting. No word yet on Lily Gladstone, who will play a key part in the film. Will she be campaigned as Lead Actress or Supporting? Regardless, there’s been major buzz around her performance A May 2020 THR report had reported that Eric Roth’s script was severely altered and the role that DiCaprio was originally supposed to play was given to Plemons....
