So it is no surprise that Cruise has called his good friend once again to do some on-set rewrites for the upcoming “Top Gun” sequel “Maverick.”
The upcoming issue of Empire has confirmed that the Cruise/McQuarrie team are collaborating once again on “Top Gun: Maverick,” which is their 10th film together. Sources close to the production have said that McQuarrie has been on-set strictly for script work, but that the “heavy lifting” on the screenplay had already been done when McQuarrie came in.
Cruise’s “Oblivion” director Joseph Kosinski is directing the film, which has been credited to screenwriters Peter Craig (12 Strong), Justin Marks (Counterpoint), and Eric Warren Singer (American Hustle).
The cast assembled for “Top Gun: Maverick” is impressive, it includes includes Val Kilmer, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris. Production is currently underway, and the film will hit theaters on June 26, 2020.
