‘Everything Everywhere’ beat the far-worthier “Aftersun” and “TÁR” last night, winning the coveted Best Feature prize. The under-40 crowd loves this movie. Just to show another example of the age disconnect, Matt Neglia tweeted being bewildered by his father’s dislike of the film after screening it for him. Best Lead Performance went to Danielle Deadwyler for “Till.” Todd Field’s “TÁR” and Charlotte Wells’ “Aftersun” were also rewarded with Best Screenplay and Best Breakthrough Director, respectively. Shaunak Sen’s “All That Breathes” won Best Documentary Feature. Justin Chang, K. Austin Collins, David Ehrlich, Alison Willmore and Jessica Kiang were part of the ‘Best Feature’ voting committee this year. The Gothams signal the beginning of awards season. They’re not necessarily any kind of precursor, but instead a nice little celebration of independent film.  Contribute Hire me
