From my original review: “Aesthetics and substance are two entirely different things in cinema. You could have a film that is bracingly inventive in its visual approach but falls flat in the narrative drama. Ditto the reverse, a visually flat film with a well-realized narrative. The latter is usually worth a recommendation, but the former can be problematic, even when you have a film as visually accomplished as Joe Talbot’s “The Last Black Man in San Francisco....

Given how difficult it is to do anything on IMDB, credit-wise, this probably means somebody took the time to submit that update. The ball seems to finally be rolling on Guadagnino’s remake which could maybe be his next film. Guadagnino is in all likelihood going to directing this “Scarface” remake for Universal, which had a draft rewritten by none other than Joel and Ethan Coen around two years ago. “You want my honest-to-God’s opinion on Netflix buying TIFF 2020 selection “Concrete Cowboy”? The Idris Elba-starring movie sure as hell isn’t an Oscar contender. If anything, the streaming giant saw this as an opportunity to add another title to their library. Nothing more, nothing less. Don’t get me wrong, ‘Cowboy’ will be liked by some audiences, it has a 76% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a decent 66 on Metacritic....

There was just no way that director Patty Jenkins’ DC tentpole would be skipping its theatrical release, given it’s a tentpole movie which was made very much with the intention of being seen in packed houses on the largest screen possible. However, the inevitability of other releases skipping theatrical and going straight to VOD is very much there. We already saw it with Universal recently pushing theatrical films such as “Emma,” “The Invisible Man,” and “The Hunt” straight to VOD platforms and even announcing a day-and-date release for “Trolls World Tour....

Recently interviewed by The Daily Beast, Apatow was asked to weigh in on disbarred comedian Louis C.K.’s first major stand-up tour. Apatow didn’t hold back by calling C.K’s jokes about Parkland and Trans people “offensive” and then making the comparison to Aziz Ansari’s more “appreciative” tackling of his own #MeToo situation. “I appreciate what Aziz did and a lot of us feel like, we wish Louis said that on day one,” Apatow tells The Daily Beast....

IMDB is now listing the film as having a November 26th, 2021 release date in the United States, U.K. and Canada. That is not surprising news at all since production had officially wrapped in late November on PTA’s ninth feature film. The editing process must be going smoothly and now we are left to speculate if a Cannes premiere is in the works (that is if the festival even occurs this coming July)....

Regardless of that, I believe that Green Book’s chances don’t lie in Op-Ed think-pieces about the Viggo controversy, but rather in how audiences will greet it this weekend and beyond, especially when word of mouth hits. However, a slew of “Green Book is racist”-esque writeups have suddenly hit the web. The most scathing of which is an 11.15 piece from Shadow and Act writer Brooke Orbie which goes by the headline “‘Green Book’ Is A Poorly Titled White Savior Film....

Another near-impossible task must have been writing the screenplay, which credited here to Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and, despite some inspiring stretches, meanders a little too much in its back-and-fortness....
